At left is a drawing of Rocket Raccoon by Mike Mignola, from 1983; at right is a recent Mignola drawing of the same character. He's come a long way in 27 years. The recent 'RR' is both more faithful to the appearance of real raccoons, and more stylized and weird. The "natural/unnatural" paradox of great art.
Speaking of animal characters, here's a rare photo from the early days of Disneyland. Posing with Uncle Walt are costumed characters from a wide variety of Disney features, including Old Yeller (a big hit for the studio that year), and a few characters I don't even recognize. Good times.
